I had the opportunity to compose this short piece for Pomona College’s 2014 Convocation, which called for a quiet interlude. Meditation is basically a passacaglia, based on a 9-bar repeating series of chords, most of which are based on the overtones of the open strings of the viola and cello, and which become explicit in the glissandi at the end of the piece.
